California's Great America is committed to providing a safe environment for all of our guests and associates. All guests arriving at the park are electronically scanned with a handheld "wand" and/or metal detector. Guests are also asked to open any backpacks, purses or waist packs for a brief examination.

It depends on the ride. Some of the rides that flip you over require you to use the lockers before you ride. But others will let you wear a small purse or fanny pack thing around yourself with no problem.
Can you wear a bag on a roller coaster?
Wear a fanny pack or use a VERY secure pocket that zips closed. The coasters are intense. A cross body bag would make it very difficult to secure the harnesses on the rides. Plus it would likely fly up and smack you in the face.
How do you carry stuff at an amusement park?
It's recommended that you bring a small backpack or fanny pack to store any belongings along with you during the day. If you tend to get thirsty or hungry, pack your bag with small bottles of water and snacks you can eat right away. The backpack will also come in handy when it comes time to go on rides!
Can you bring a camera to Great America?
NOTE: Guests who require health accommodations may bring a bag no larger than 4.5” x 6.5” containing only medically necessary items into the park. All bags will be searched prior to entry. Cameras or photography is not permitted inside our haunted mazes or scare zones.

Guests wearing character themed outfits may not sign autographs for other guests or represent themselves as a park associate. Costumes that conceal identity are prohibited. Rides and attractions may also have additional restrictions on dress attire.

Due to rider restraint system requirements, guests of a larger size may not be accommodated on some of our rides. This may apply, but not be limited to, guests who exceed 6'2" or those who exceed 225 pounds, have a 40" waistline or 52" chest.
